Erika Schlick Teaches People That Food Is The Best Medicine

In 2012, Erika Schlick was unknowingly bitten by a tick on a camping trip. Over the next two years, she suffered a multitude of different health problems that no doctor could identify. It wasn’t until 2014 that she was diagnosed with Lyme disease, mold illness, heavy metal toxicity and five autoimmune conditions. While having answers was a relief, she realized that she was going to have to cure herself from an incurable disease, an uphill battle she wasn’t prepared for. After undergoing stem cell therapy, she entered remission from Lyme disease.

In 2014 she started a blog as a platform to share her recovery from Lyme disease physically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually with natural and holistic healing. As she got better, her blog shifted to connect with others who were undergoing similar struggles. This opened the door for her to start her own health coaching business in 2015, helping clients with chronic illnesses.

Erika now dedicates her life to helping others with similar affiliations, showing people how to eat healthily and live a better life. Her cookbook Wandering Palate features 28 days of healthy paleo meals, supplemented by her blog posts which offer numerous articles about eating healthy.

Her articles cover topics from toxins and antinutrients in food, cooking with fresh herbs, simple ingredient swaps, gut health, to organic food. While much of her coaching revolves around the healing powers of food, she also advocates for lifestyle changes too, from sleeping on the right kind of mattress, to taking steps towards sustainable living.

She shares the simple and everyday steps people can take to like a healthy and happy life like her. She explains: “Today I am able to live a symptom-free life in remission from all of my conditions. I eat clean, have a healthy lifestyle, manage my stress, I can exercise again and I am enjoying my life and health.”

She adds: “With my healing journey, comes a tremendous amount of new-found knowledge about health and healing.” In addition to this she also graduated from the Institute For Integrative Nutrition (IIN) as a Certified Health Coach in 2015, starting Health Coaching Practice to help those also trying to heal from chronic conditions or to optimize their health so they don’t find themselves in the same position as she did.

Erika even featured on the Netflix show Afflicted (episode 4), a docu-series which follows several people with chronic illnesses who are searching for answers. Erika was one of the lucky ones who went beyond traditional methods and invested in her health as a means to recover and better her quality of life. Now, she passes on the vital lessons to people searching for that same knowledge that she sought out on her own road to recovery.
