When Ken Termin was looking for something to challenge and motivate him this summer, he found it right here in New York City: the 2024 NYC SEAL Swim. This grueling charity event organized by the Navy SEAL Foundation pushes participants to their limits as they run, do honor workouts, and swim 3.5 miles across the Hudson River.

The event starts at the Empty Sky Memorial at  Liberty State Park in New Jersey and ends at the World Trade Center Memorial in New York City.  Participants enter the Hudson River at Liberty State Park and swim to the Statue of Liberty, where they do 100 push-ups to honor our nation’s freedoms and civil liberties. Participants then swim to Ellis Island and complete another 100 push-ups to honor our nation’s diversity and those who came to America seeking a better life. They then swim across the Hudson River to Battery Park, Manhattan, New York City, grab American flags, and run to the World Trade Center Memorial to do a third set of 100 push-ups to honor all those who lost their lives on 9-11 and while serving their country.   Participants also do 22 pull-ups after each set of pushups to honor the 22 veterans who commit suicide each day.

The NYC SEAL Swim raises awareness and funds for the Navy SEAL Foundation, which provides critical support to veterans and their families, including those who have been wounded or lost loved ones in service to our country.

Ken Termini is one of several dozen civilians who have been granted the opportunity to participate in this exclusive event.  He knows the physical demands will be tough; he’s been training for months to ensure he’s up for the challenge. He’s determined to complete the event and be among the fundraising leaders. He’s also taken on additional responsibilities, including being part of the 8-man team that completed the “dial-in” swim on July 10.

“I’m honored to be a part of this event,” Ken says. “It’s a privilege to swim alongside these incredible veterans and first responders who have sacrificed so much for our country. The Navy SEAL Foundation does amazing work supporting these heroes and their families, and I’m proud to be raising money for such a worthy cause.”
