COVID-19 had disrupted the education system in India thereby forcing the State Governments to shut down schools temporarily. The Government of Telangana collaborated with OAKS to ensure their students are not affected academically by offering online classes. The OAKS application was implemented for 350,000 students in 1000+ schools spread across 31 districts in Telangana.

The students from class 6-10 of Telangana Social Welfare Residential Educational Institutions Society (TSWREIS), Telangana Tribal Welfare Residential Educational Institutions Society (TTWREIS), Integrated Tribal Development Agency (ITDA) Badharchalam and Telangana Minorities Residential Educational Institutions Society (TMREIS), and Telangana Residential Educational Institutions Society (TREIS) successfully deployed and used OAKS to self-learn tough subjects like Science and Mathematics at the comfort of their homes.

Teachers and students faced technological challenges like access to smartphones, network connectivity, high speed internet etc. Lack of expertise in conducting online classes was also a challenge for the teachers.

OAKS enabled the teachers to conduct live sessions and upload tailor-made videos through live classes for better understanding of the subject, the app also provided a personalised learning path for every child. Thereby minimising the workload of the teachers.

The concept of ‘Adopt the Village’ was successfully implemented where a teacher had the option to adopt two to three villages. Here the teachers visited the villages twice a week and gave the students access to smartphones so that they could use the OAKS application and learn at their pace. The students followed a hub learning model where students of the senior classes guided five to ten students in the junior classes.

OAKS provided concept-based byte sized videos mapped to the school syllabus. Owing to this, there are on an average of more 80,000 Active students on OAKS Learning application on daily bases and have watched more than 8 million minutes of content in 5 months. Apart from that students liked the application and attempted more than 75 million questions with the average improvement of 38% in the performance compare those who have not used OAKS. On top of that 98% of students shows positive improvement after learning by using the OAKS app.
