Pilot Jamil Mohammed Abubakar is a born leader. His will to serve his people has made him the philanthropist he is today. Amidst the rising pandemic, his NGO, JMD foundation has been providing crucial support to everyone suffering. COVID- 19 has brought never before seen situations for humanity everywhere. With crisis leading to a lack of food, excess requirement of medical supplies, joblessness, to name a few, which have been breaking people down. Jamil and his NGO have taken it on themselves to serve as many people as they can in every way possible.
JMD Foundation regularly conducts awareness programs on prominent issues the community faces. The foundation has so far conducted programs on Women empowerment, Rape awareness, and uplifting young women. During COVID, the foundation distributed 300 medicated soaps, detergents and sanitizers to the Makoko community on 26th March 2020. They then fed over 10,000 people including the elderly in Lagos. They also carried truckloads of rice and maize to hunger-stricken areas like Zamfara, Kano, and Kaduna State. They collaborated with 20 local governments to feed the hungry in all of Lagos and the Zamfara State. JMD Foundation also visited The Gusau Prison to empower the inmates. Mr. Jamil has personally seen to all the arrangements during this emergency. He made sure that his foundation pays the hospital bills for homeless patients and give them a better life.
Mr.Jamil holds a BSc Hons degree in computing information systems and multimedia from Kingston University for which he received an honorary award. Later, his love for flying became his vocation and also the basis of establishing the JMD foundation. Being an avid pilot, he wanted to assist young pilots in their journey. JMD foundation provides aviation mentorship to future pilots. Each year, they lead a senior-level leadership workshop to bring leadership teams from selected schools and non-profits in one place. They train and discuss varied funding opportunities and the best practices that can be implemented to nurture their talent.
Mr.Jamil has come a long way from being a commercial pilot. His foundation is his identity now. And when asked, He says, “ My life is for my people. It brings me so much joy to see people safe, healthy, and happy.” JMD foundation continuously strives to offer the best to everyone amidst the lurking pandemic.
